Edwin Nelson Austin

Word has been received of the death of Edwin N Austin in Salt Lake City on Sunday, May 23, resulting from infirmities incident to age and by dropsy and heart trouble. Mr. Austin was born at Farmington, Conn. Sept 5, 1840 and had lived to the ripe of age of 79 1/2 years. he resided in Liberty for nearly fifty years and in Salt Lake for three years. He presided as bishop of Liberty ward for more than forty years.

He is survived by his widow, Almorra N; eight sons, Edwin A, De Meade, Arta C, Mark, Torrey L, Samuel M, H Lane and Horatius N Austin; two daughters Mrs. Maude Moyle of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Nellie McMurray, of Bear Lake County. As a child of six years, he made the historic voyage on Sailing Sloop Brooklyn from New York around Cape Horn to Golden harbor, San Francisco for a few years and then moved with his parents to Salt Lake City. He saw the early settlement of Utah and became a pioneer to this county.

The body arrived Tuesday and was taken to Ovid by train and from there by team to Libery, where funeral services were held in the Ward chapel, Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm. The speakers were Bishop W R Morgan, Joseph Neibaur, Samuel Matthews, Pres. Ed Rich, Pres. Wm L Rich and Ola Transtrum and Silas L Wright, all paid high tributes. A fan of mixed wheat of flowers was sent by the Daughters of Pioneers from Salt Lake.
