A BEAUTY FROM A BEAR LAKE ORCHARD
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Austin whose ranch is about a mile south of Hot Springs, presented the writer with a "Bear Lake Beauty" last Monday in the form of a Wolf River apple, which was grown in their orchard. The apple weighs just one pound and is 15 inches in circumference. It is seemingly perfect in form and coloring and is indeed a beauty.
Mr. Austin stated that he gathered about 50 bushels of apples from his orchard this year and every apple was free from blemish or worms. He has about 300 trees, consisting of apples, plums, pears, apricots and cherries and all of them bore quite well this year.
The results obtained from Mr. Austin's orchard demonstrates that Bear Lake Valley can grow as fine fruit as any section in the state, not with standing the altitude averages 6000 feet above sea level.
