TWO MEN DROWN IN BEAR LAKE

Raymond H Shepherd, 39 and Donald L Elmore, 28 both of Paris, drowned last Saturday afternoon when the boat in which they were trolling was swamped by a heavy swell off the east shore of Bear Lake.  Kit McBride, also of Paris and owner of the boat, survived the harrowing experience by swimming about 150 yards to shore in the ice cold, wave tossed waters.

Following a well coordinated search involving some 50 volunteers under direction of Sheriff Sherman Lutz of Rich County and Sheriff Clifford J Skinner and Deputy Bernard Wilkes of Bear Lake County, begun late Saturday and continuing through the night, the bodies were sighted at 8:20 am Sunday from a plane piloted by Duane Langford and Kay Allred, president of the Bear Lake Sheriff's Posse with him.
