NATIONALLY KNOWN EDUCATOR DIES
 

Dr. D Ross Pugmire, 56, St Charles native and nationally known educator, died suddenly of a heart attack Friday in Norman, Oklahoma.  Dr. Pugmire was dean of the department of education, University of Oklahoma.  He was nationally recognized as an expert on education finance and law and served on many committees in these fields.  He had taught summer course at UCLA, Utah, Michigan, University of Colorado and University of Pennsylvania.

Before going to University of Oklahoma, he was on the faculty of State Teachers College, Flagstaff and was supervisor of Arizona secondary education for a number of years.  He attended Fielding High School received his BS Degree from BYU, Provo, and MA and PhD degrees from Columbia University.

Dr. Pugmire was born August 11, 1902 in St Charles, the son of Edward M and Luanna Booth Pugmire.  He married Bernice Lee in 1931.  Besides his widow he is survived by two sons, David 17, and Rex Pugmire, 14 of Norman; two sisters, Mrs. P C (Lois) Passey of Ogden and Mrs. F M (Jennie) Brown of Liberty; and two brothers McKay Pugmire of Pocatello and Emerson Pugmire of Hagerman.

Services were held at 1:30 pm Tuesday in the St Charles ward with Bishop LaVell Booth conducting.  The opening song "The Lord is My Shepherd" was by the choir; invocation Arlin Pugmire; speaker, Dr. Samuel Moore of Pocatello, member of the ISU faculty; vocal selection "Come Unto Me and Rest" Bennington Trio comprised of Mrs. Conover Wright, Samuel Hall and Mrs. Wilson Weaver, accompanied by Mrs. Lester Armatage; speaker, President L Burdette Pugmire; song "Beautiful Isle" choir; and benediction Bishop Bryan Booth.

Interment was in the St Charles cemetery and the grave was dedicated by Emerson Pugmire.  The Matthews Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
