~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
David and Mary Bennett were called in 1864 by Brigham Young to go into the Bear Lake Valley to assist in settling it. They settled in Bloomington with a pair of black horses, several head of cattle and a flock of sheep. Here again he helped build homes and was the first one to have sheds and barns for his livestock. Tragedy struck after the birth of Elizabeth. Mary died suddenly on 29 Jan 1873. Several women in town helped David keep Elizabeth alive. After his wife died, he farmed on the east side of the lake at the mouth of Wolf Creek, later called Indian Creek. While clearing and burning sagebrush, he accidentally fell into the fire. His friends pulled him free but he died 3 June 1875 leaving his family in the care of the oldest son John. The baby went to live with William and Jemima Garnett in Smithfield.
