Word was received here Wednesday that Clarence B Shepherd, 29, died Tuesday of injuries received in an explosion of oil fumes aboard the submarine Nautilus in Honolulu. Navy officers said, according to a news report, "six others injured in the same explosion, which only slightly damaged the Nautilus, were doing all right."

Mr. Shepherd, chief machinist's mate, was born in Paris. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Harry Rogers, who recently moved to Nampa from Montpelier; a half-brother, George Rogers of Nampa; two sisters, Mrs. Lois Robinson of Pocatello; Mrs. Virginia Sorenson of Idaho Falls; and two brothers, Luther Shepherd of Montpelier and Lee Shepherd of Salt Lake City. He is also survived by a widow and three year old son living in Honolulu.

The explosion occurred while the crew was making engine adjustments shortly after the submarine returned from a sea trip August 15, a press release stated. Another Idahoan, Arthur G Adams of Emmett, was injured in the explosion.
