MONTPELIER - Clarence W Atkinson, 73, passed
away peacefully Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Montpelier, Idaho at the Bear Lake
Memorial Skilled Nursing Facility after years of living with Alzheimer's
disease.
He was born August 17, 1937, in Malad, Idaho a son of David and Mary Atkinson.
He grew up in Samaria, Idaho and was educated in area schools before earning his
Bachelor's degree from Utah State University and his Masters of Science in
Chemistry from the University of Idaho. He married Georgia Ann Monson on June
22, 1960 in the Logan LDS Temple. He taught school in the Bear Lake School
district for over 30 years. He was know by his students as "CA" and passed his
leather crafting talent on to many students over the years. In the summers he
worked for the US Forest Service and enjoyed riding the canyons and visiting
with the campers.
Clarence was a member of the LDS Church and held several callings and enjoyed
helping his neighbors. He was active in the Paris Lions Club for many years and
enjoyed his many steak dinners and service projects.
He is survived by his wife Georgia of Paris, Idaho, daughter, Terri Hart,
Layton, Utah, and son, Shane Atkinson, Salt Lake City, Utah, 4 grandchildren, 3
great-grandchildren, 2 brothers Arthur Atkinson, Brigham City, Utah and Roger
Atkinson, Sandy, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother
David Sheldon Atkinson and his sister Ivy Jean East.
Graveside services for the public will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the St.
Charles City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Matthews Mortuary,
Montpelier, Idaho.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the nurses and
staff of the Bear Lake Skilled Nursing Facility for their friendship and months
of loving care.
