Montpelier City Council
Montpelier Examiner, Wednesday, 11 October 1911
Owing to the inability of Manager Brough of the Bear Lake Power Co and the special committee from the city council to agree upon terms and conditions for lighting the streets of Montpelier, the streets are at present in darkness.
The order to cut out the streetlights was given
to the power company yesterday, and we understand the action of the committee is
endorse by every member of the council.

The city council met Wednesday night with mayor presiding and councilman present except Jones. Considerable time was taken up in preparing the annual estimate of expenses for the ensuing fiscal year.
The speed ordinance came in for considerable discussion. The ordinance provides that autos must not be run at a speed of more than six miles an hour at street crossings or when turning corners.
Councilman Reese contends that this speed is too low and that a new ordinance should be passed fixing a reasonable speed at which cars should be run within the city limits. The Councilmen all aired their views on the question, and the prevailing sentiment seemed to be let the present ordinance sand, and the police officers are instructed to "pull" every one caught driving their autos at a reckless speed on Main street.

Local Post No 63 of the American Legion has been given permission by the Union Pacific system to use the athletic field west of the railroad tracks as a site for a public ice skating rink.
Mayor Williams has consented to supply city water for the project, which is under the direction of Glenn Peterson and it is planned to construct a large pond which will offer needed winter recreational activities for both children and adults.
