A small north room in the Washington building which was located on the corner of 4th and Clay streets was the beginning of the Montpelier High School program.  At first classes were held only in the morning.  Charles Willis was the superintendent and only instructor.

He taught Algebra, English, Ancient History, Physical Geography.
