SERVICE MAN DIES IN ENGLAND

Corporal Charles F Brown, 20 died in England on August 4, according to information received Saturday from the War Department by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles R Brown.   On August 16 Mr. and Mrs. Brown received a telegram from the War Department stating that their son had been wounded in action July 29 somewhere in France.

The telegram signed by J A Ulio, the adjutant general said, "The Secretary of War asks that I assure you of his deepest sympathy in the loss of your son, Corporal Charles F Brown.  Report received that he died on 4th of August in England as result of wounds received in action. Letter follows."  Corporal Brown, member of an armored battalion entered the service at Lead, South Dakota February 23, 1943 and landed overseas around the middle of April 1944.  He was born May 9, 1924 in Lead and there spent most of his life.  He parents moved to Montpelier when the Wooden Coal and Mine was opened.  Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters; Marian and Dorothy Brown, both living at home in Montpelier and his maternal grandparents. --- (this section is cut off)
