AGED PIONEER
Mrs. Ann Mallett Bunney, a pioneer to Bear Lake county, died the
latter part of last week at the ripe old age of 90 years. Mrs. Bunney was the
mother of Mrs. John A Perkins, her only surviving child. She was born near
Liskeard Cornwall England, on May 5th, 1830, and was married on January 1, 1851
to John Bunney. She was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints on August 16, 1854, in England, leaving there in April 1856 for America
and reached Salt Lake City Sept. 26, 1856. She pulled a hand cart by the side of
her husband from Iowa City to Salt Lake.
Mrs. Bunney came to Bear Lake county in the fall of 1863 and wintered in Paris, coming to Montpelier in April 1864. She was active in church work all of her life and was one of the first members of the Relief Society when it was first organized in Montpelier, serving 25 years as treasurer of that organization and president of the primary association for 20 years.
Mrs. Bunney's husband, John Bunney, died in 1913. They lived together for more than 60 years. Of two children born to Mrs. Bunney, Mrs. Perkins is the only survivor, besides nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the First ward meeting house Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 and the speakers were John J Jones, William Severn, President Ed C Rich and Bishop W Woodruff Clark.
