Ovid-Amy Johanna Nielson Shurtliff, 93, died Friday, July 16, at
the home of a daughter, Mrs. Dean Ward in Bloomington. She was born Oct 4, 1888
at Ovid, to Lars Peter and Maria Jorgensen Nielson. She married Lorenzo J
Shurtliff Sept 3, 1913 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He died Aug 14, 1978.
She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in all the auxiliaries. She particularly loved teaching Sunday School classes. She had also been active in civic and school affairs.
Survivors include a son Joy Nielson Shurtliff, Brigham City, Utah; two daughters, Mrs. Bryan (Darleen) Booth, Garden City, Utah, and Mrs. Dean Edyth Ward, Bloomington; 16 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Elgin (Marie) Bridges, Montpelier and a brother; Deforest Nielson, Rock Spring, Wyo. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 20 at noon in the Liberty LDS Chapel. Burial was in the Ovid Cemetery.
